A Celebration Of Life For Joe Eddie Washington


Joe Eddie Washington’s life began on December 26, 1956. He was the fourth child and the third son of O.T. and Helen Washington.

Whether in Arkansas, Ohio, Indiana, New York, or California, Joe found a church home and played an active role in his church community.

Joe was a true scholar. His thirst for knowledge led him to numerous universities and medical school, resulting in a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Arkansas; a Master of Science degree in Neurophysiology from Purdue University; and a Juris Doctor from the University of Akron Law School. Joe was a member of many boards, commissions and educational alumnus and community organizations that focused on helping humanity. His career as an attorney afforded him many opportunities to assist others with personal and legal matters.

Joe was proceeded in death by his parents and his loyal companion, Shakespeare. He leaves to cherish his memories: 2 brothers: Odiest Washington, Chicago, IL; Major (Floria) Washington, Dumas, AR; 2 sisters: Patricia Watkins, McGehee, AR; Leesher (Alvin) Washington, Little Rock, AR; one aunt: Eddie Lee Rose, Detroit, MI; a goddaughter: Melanie Sipplen-Woods, Kent, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his church family at Destiny Christian Fellowship and Change of Heart Ministries in California.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Willis Funeral Home, 101 Park Street, McGehee, AR. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1102 South 1st Street, McGehee, AR. The services are entrusted to the Willis Funeral Home.

To the Washington Family,

Joe’s faith in the Lord was assuring and his jokes kept us laughing! We enjoyed many celebrations & eating his favorite bbq! His wit, intelligence & friendship will never be forgotten. Our prayers are with you .

I'm so sorry for the loss of your family member. I remember Joe from when he lived in McGehee. He was the older brother of my dear childhood friend, Leesher. Sorry for you loss.
